About Art Therapy

What is Art Therapy?

Art Therapy is a therapeutic method that combines creative expression with psychotherapy. It allows clients to externalize and reflect on their emotions, worries, and concerns in a unique and novel way. By creating art, clients can communicate their thoughts and feelings in a manner that can be challenging through verbalization. The art itself adds another dimension to the therapy session, as it can be shaped and modified throughout the process to meet the client's therapeutic needs. The use of art as a tool in treatments centered on meeting the client’s therapeutic needs.

What materials are used in the session?

Art Therapy utilizes a variety of materials such as paint, clay, collage, and drawing. It's worth noting that you don't have to possess artistic skills to reap the benefits of this therapeutic approach. The emphasis is placed on the process rather than the end result. As every client's journey is distinctive, no two sessions will be alike.

What you can expect

When you enter an Art Therapy session, you can anticipate a welcoming and non-judgmental atmosphere. As the Art Therapist, I approach each session with empathy and kindness, prepared to give my full attention. Our sessions usually start with a ten-minute check-in, followed by art creation and conversation. You can freely express yourself through art or opt for a directive. The process of creating art is given more importance than the finished product, and the therapist may ask questions or offer guidance to help the client explore their thoughts and emotions. This form of therapy can be particularly effective for people of all ages and backgrounds who are dealing with difficult experiences or emotions. Art therapy can also provide valuable insights into a person's inner world, allowing them to better understand themselves and their feelings.
